Robin
Browning is among the most acclaimed conductors of his generation, and
is increasingly sought-after by a wide variety of ensembles. He is currently
Music Director of Southampton University Symphony Orchestra, Essex Youth
Orchestra, Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra, the Petersfield Orchestra and
the Philharmonic@UH (based at the University of Hertfordshire). Robin
also enjoys a busy guest conducting schedule with orchestras such as Hertfordshire
Chamber Orchestra, Trinity College of Music Sinfonia and with the Symphony
Orchestra at Junior Guildhall. He has conducted all over europe, and this
summer will tour to Portugal and the Czech Republic. Robin also runs the
conducting course at the University of Southampton.
Robin studied at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Ilya Musin and Myun-Whung Chung, at King's College London, the Guildhall School of Music, and UEA in Norwich. In 2004 he was taught by the inspirational Joseph Gifford on the island of Elba, and will study with him again this summer in Vermont. Robin has also been encouraged and advised by Charles Mackerras, Ben Zander, Sian Edwards and Mark Elder, who he assisted with both the LPO and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Robin made his London debut in 1996 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
at the Barbican, a performance which was subsequently broadcast on Classic
fm, and has worked with the Halle, English Northern Philharmonia, Northern
Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, Danish Radio Orchestra and the Ensemble
Intercontemporain in Paris. Robin won the inaugural Boosey & Hawkes
Award at the Edinburgh Festival, and was a prizewinner in the 1994 NAYO
